[ The challenge ]
Stagnant inventory tying up working capital.
Slow-moving and stagnant stock was tying up working capital across a large retail assortment, and finding clearance opportunities meant manual analysis that was slow to repeat.
[ The results ]
$110M of stagnant inventory analyzed, inventory turns up from 3.7 to 4.0.
As operations and inventory analyst, Roshan automated the Python, SQL and Excel analysis behind the inventory review. It identified $110M in stagnant inventory for clearance and disposition decisions and supported an improvement in inventory turns from 3.7 to 4.0. The $110M is inventory value identified, not cash recovered or realized savings. In DMAIC terms: the problem was defined as stagnant stock tying up working capital; measured with automated analysis across the assortment; analyzed to isolate $110M in stagnant inventory; improved through clearance and disposition decisions that supported turns rising from 3.7 to 4.0; and controlled by making the analysis repeatable instead of a one-off manual review.
